Who is Studio XS?
Rooted in Massa Carrara, Northern Tuscany — between the marble quarries of the Apuan Alps and the Mediterranean — Cesare Perniola has built Studio XS into an independent atelier where motion design, 3D art, creative direction, and AI-generated imagery converge into a singular and recognisable language.
His trajectory spans more than two decades: national and international commissions for La Gazzetta dello Sport (Magic Cup 2001–2008, Giro d'Italia), Formula Medicine, and collaborations with motorsport figures Jarno Trulli and Ryan Briscoe; hundreds of interactive interfaces for educational and e-learning platforms; international recognition in photography (2012); and features in JaamZIN Creative and TheCrazyMind.
His visual work has entered the music sphere through videos by BCW, an established voice in Chinese hip-hop culture, and sustains ongoing creative dialogue with artists such as Constantin Paschou (The French Monkey).
In 2025, Perniola received a Special Recognition at the AI Design Awards in the category People / Character Design, for Queen Olyssia — a work that synthesises baroque opulence and computational aesthetics into a figure that exists only within the digital imagination. The piece encapsulates his approach: not the adoption of a tool, but the cultivation of a practice — in which AI functions as a conceptual counterpart, an elastic instrumentarium refined through relentless research, iteration, and intentionality.
Perniola treats the threshold between human intention and algorithmic interpretation not as a boundary to negotiate, but as a terrain to inhabit.
Studio XS is where that ethos takes form — disciplined, forward-looking, and built on a single conviction: that authorship becomes most interesting precisely where it becomes uncertain.
